This Privacy Policy explains how PolyLinks ("the app," "we," "our") handles information when you use our language learning application. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.

1. Information We Do Not Collect

PolyLinks does not collect or transmit:

• Your name, email address, or any account information
• Your location data
• Your contacts or any other device data
• Crash reports or analytics data
• Any personally identifiable information

2. Data Stored on Your Device

All app data is stored locally on your device only and is never transmitted to our servers. This includes:

• Your selected languages and app settings
• Your streak count and learning progress
• Flashcards you have saved and their review history
• Custom decks you have created
• Cached audio files for pronunciation playback

This data is stored using your device's local storage system (SharedPreferences on Android, UserDefaults on iOS) and is removed when you uninstall the app.

3. Microphone Access

PolyLinks requests access to your device's microphone for two features:

• Voice recording. To record yourself pronouncing words for personal comparison. Recordings are stored temporarily on your device for the duration of your session and are automatically deleted when you close the app. They are never transmitted anywhere.
• ChainReaction game. To recognize spoken words using your device's speech recognition system. Audio is processed locally by your device's operating system and is not stored or transmitted by PolyLinks.

You will be asked for microphone permission the first time you use these features. You may deny this permission; the app's core flashcard features will continue to work without microphone access.

4. Third-Party Services

PolyLinks uses the following third-party services to power certain features. These services have their own privacy policies and may process data according to their terms:

Google Cloud Text-to-Speech
Used to generate pronunciation audio for vocabulary words. When you tap the speaker button, the word text is sent to Google's servers to generate an audio file. No personal information is included in these requests. Audio files are cached on your device after the first request.

Used to display photographs on flashcard backgrounds. Images are fetched from Unsplash's servers. No personal information is included in these requests.

DeepL
Used to translate vocabulary words when you create custom decks. The word text you enter is sent to DeepL's servers for translation. No personal information is included in these requests.

Lingva Translate
Used as a translation fallback for Japanese and Korean. Word text may be sent to Lingva's servers. No personal information is included.

5. Children's Privacy

PolyLinks is designed for general audiences and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since PolyLinks does not collect any personal information from any users, there is no special risk to children's data.

6. Data Security

Since PolyLinks does not collect or transmit personal data, there is no personal data at risk of a breach on our end. All data stored on your device is protected by your device's own security features.

7. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
